Sunflowers and Sunshine at last! @donnag63

2015 has been the year that nearly wasn’t. My life was turned upside down in February when I found myself in hospital. To say it was a lengthy stay is quite the understatement. I didn’t return home until the end of May. All the writing plans I had etc were shoved to the back burner – so to speak and I was heartbroken that I had to cancel two conferences, RT in Dallas and the Australian Romance Readers convention in Canberra. Maybe I will make it to RT in Vegas next year. On the positive side my family did learn to take care of themselves…

While I was ‘away’ the second book in my Haven Security series, An Opportunity for Redemption released. I was not able to give my new release any promotion at the time. So, thanks to my friends at Book Rhythm we are plugging Nate and Bec’s story now 🙂

Please visit WLK Book Promotions and enter the Rafflecopter or check out some of the wonderful blogs that are hosting my Book Tour. I must make mention of  Harlie’s Books here, thank you so much for the awesome review and my 5 Harleys 🙂

recommend-harlies-new5harlies-300x39HeaderBRNEWpromo-buttonI also added another fur-baby to my family. Toni the mini dachshund now has a baby brother, Ralph the toy Pomeranian. They are so sweet.

Celebrating the Release of My New Haven Security Series – Parties, Blog Tours and Feature Articles.

B96OUi-IgAAx9YkReleasing a new series, especially in a new genre is exciting and terrifying at the same time. After seven books in my League of Love series I thought it was time to try something new. So I swapped my sexy Aussie sportsmen for the hot alpha ex-soldiers of Haven Security.

I love a new release but, not so much the promotion. I always feel like I’m pushing my book down your throat so to speak. I even get tired of seeing me 😉

I was thrilled though to be able to do a feature at the Are Café and one for USA Today’s, Happy Ever After recently.

Then there is the blog tour with the help of Book Rhythm – thanks so much Muse for organising this for me. There is a Rafflecopter running with a $100 Amazon gift card up for grabs – so go forth and enter.

Anne Lange is On the Bench – Sliding into Home @Anne_Lange

Sliding Banner

Please welcome my fellow Totally Bound author Anne Lange to On the Bench.

I just had to have Anne come downunder and pay a visit to my blog after I finished reading Sliding into Home. It’s pretty clear I love a sporty hero and so Jack pushed his way into my heart very quickly 😉 I had my mini iPad propped up at the table while I ate breakfast, couldn’t put the book down. There are sexy scenes aplenty and even some drunken shenanigans. I’ve also been to Vegas a few times so I think that helped me connect so strongly to the storyline. I do think Mason needs his own book Anne – Just saying! 😉

Anne Lange is On the Bench

Author Interview

Hi Anne, thank you for visiting.

Hi Donna! Thanks for having me here today 🙂

Tell us a bit about yourself,

Well, I’m a wife and a mom. I grew up the oldest of four in Southern Ontario, Canada and now live in Eastern Ontario. I work full-time and I write in my spare time…or rather, I make the time, otherwise I’d probably choose to curl up in a corner on my sofa with a good book.

Books and shoes are my passion. Reading is my escape, my form of relaxation.  I love to step into the shoes of the heroine I’m spending my time with, and dream about getting lucky with the sexy hero! I read most genres of fiction, but my favourites are romantic suspense and erotic romance, with a few historicals thrown in for good measure every so often.

What was the first book you had published?

My very first book was Worth the Risk. It was published in 2013. It’s a novella as well, and also a reunion story, actually. But it takes place on a camping trip. So it has outdoor sex scenes 🙂

What was your initial reaction when offered that first contract?

Pretty much. I called my husband down to re-read the email I’d received.

Of the books you have written is there one that holds a special place in your heart and why?

Well, Worth the Risk probably, because it was my first, but also because it was a therapeutic exercise for me. A part of my real life was the inspiration for the story.  Though my story didn’t play out the way it did for my heroine, and I was married to my husband at the time, her pain and anguish was mine.   Oh look, I did that without giving away any details. Sneaky 😉

Are you a disciplined writer or do you have to wait for the muse to arrive? Do you have a ritual that gets you in the mood?

Oh, I am not disciplined at all. My muse goes on extended vacations and I have to literally drag him kicking and screaming back to the task at hand. It’s very painful. Unfortunately I don’t have a ritual, unless you want to count deadlines. Those seem to work. I’m pretty good under pressure.

What was the last book you read?

Last book was Roni Loren’s Forever Starts Tonight.

What are you working on now?

I am working on a few things. The next book in A New League series has been submitted.  It’s called The Final Quarter. So I’m now starting on the third book in that series, as well as the third in another series with another publisher. It’s a ménage and is called Wicked Indulgence. I’m also working on a couple of short stories, and I have a story that I’m self-publishing called Her Choice.  Lots of balls in the air!

What genre would you like to try and write that is different from your own?

I’m trying my hand at paranormal. I have a shifter series that I’ve been working on. I have book 1 written, but I’m doing rewrites at the moment. And book 2 is also underway though on hold until I finish book 1. I’m really excited about that one because it’s a paranormal romantic suspense.  Completely new for me.

When you receive edits are you Teary and Disillusioned or Feisty and Focussed?

Definitely feisty and focused. I have a process with edits. I run through the entire ms looking for quick and easy things and get them out of the way first—a fast pass to accept/revise. I don’t look at detail. Then I go back and deal with the bigger edits, but ones I accept. Then third pass is the ones I might take issue with. Those require more though sometimes but there is generally very few in number, if any.  And I don’t like to make my editor wait, so edits become my priority over everything else.

What is one thing in your books you’d like to try?

Does plotting them out count? LOL.  I’m not a plotter. I hate doing it. But I absolutely see benefit. I wish I could.  But alas…

Now for some hard hitters with an Aussie flavour!

A sport /sportsperson that you watch? (C’mon there must be one) OR An embarrassing sporting memory.

Hockey but normally only during the playoffs. And I will watch winter Olympic games, specifically the downhill skiing.

Favourite Aussie Author/Actor /Musician?

Hugh Jackman.

Your view on Vegemite?

What’s a vegemite? LOL **D – I’ll have to send you some 🙂

Formal dinner party or backyard barbeque?

Although I love prepping for a formal dinner party, I prefer a backyard barbeque.

Adventure holiday or relaxing by the pool?

Relaxing by the pool. You can’t always read on an adventure holiday. You can ALWAYS read by the pool. J

Favourite Aussie holiday place or one you’ve always wanted to visit?

I’ve never been to Australia so I’d have to say anywhere in Australia. **D – Start in Sydney, you can visit me and we’ll take it from there 😉

Thank you, Donna, for inviting me to be on your blog today. I loved your questions! And I hope your readers enjoy hearing about this Canadian and her take on the Aussie flavoured ones J  And what is a vegemite? Seriously. Okay, I looked it up on the internet. Um…can’t say as I’ve ever tried it, and let’s just say it doesn’t tempt my pallet.

Can an injured ex ball player convince the woman he wakes up married to in Las Vegas to take a second chance on him?

After spending the last four months drowning his sorrows over the end of his baseball career, Jack Bishop finds himself winging through the blue skies to Las Vegas, not so ready to spend the weekend with some woman his best friend set him up with. He expects a paid escort. What he gets is the woman he walked away from ten years ago to pursue his passion, and she’s not very happy to see him.

Devyn Tate believes she’s quite capable of finding somebody to take her out to dinner. She’s no longer looking for a lifelong promise. She has a commitment only to her battery-operated toy to fulfill that particular need. Yet her friends have managed to talk her into spending the weekend in Las Vegas, on a blind date of all things. They promise the guy is trustworthy. They insist that she should have fun. Unfortunately, fun is not what she envisions when she discovers Jack Bishop lying on the floor of her suite in nothing but his underwear that’s on backward, and she has a wedding ring on her finger.

Cover Reveal – An Opportunity Seized by Donna Gallagher @donnag63

I have spread my genre wings and taken a short break from my League of Love, sports romance series. Here is the gorgeous cover for An Opportunity Seized. The first book in the Haven Security series, a romantic suspense/thriller set in the UK and Australia.

Two unforeseen moments in time— One brings them together, the other is a danger so real it could tear them apart.

Antoinette ‘Toni’ Grimaldi prefers to keep out of the spotlight, blend in with the crowd and experience life the same as the bulk of the population. Being a mining magnate’s daughter is a difficult persona for her to uphold. She just doesn’t fit in with high society standards, always managing to say something inappropriate or trip over her own feet at the worst possible moment. Resulting in that look of disappointment and embarrassment her parents inevitably wear whenever she’s around.

Meeting a handsome stranger who comes to her rescue and asks her out on a date is so much more than Toni could have ever hoped for on her dream holiday—one she is surprised her parents have even permitted her to take alone. Her fairy-tale moment is short lived, though, when Toni discovers the stranger has been hired by her family to follow her every move—under the guise of keeping her safe.

Jason finds he is drawn to Antoinette—she is nothing like the socialite he was expecting to shadow around London’s nightclubs at all. After an awkward first meeting he convinces Toni that there is more to his interest in her than just as her bodyguard. To his surprise his attraction for the soft spoken, thoughtful woman grows, despite his usual reluctance to commit to any kind of relationship.

A disaster at one of the family owned mines and a string of death threats forces Toni to return home, and her need for a bodyguard becomes a life and death reality.

Jorja Lovett – First Floor Cosmetics

Welcome to fellow Totally Bound author Jorja Lovett visiting today with not ONE but TWO new releases to share. It’s great to have you back downunder, Jorja 🙂

JL Pic

Thanks for having me here today to promote my little cougar romance, First Floor: Cosmetics, which goes on general release from 15th Aug. This is the second book in The Department Store series.

Jonah Hamilton was a fun character to wrangle onto paper. He’s young and hot, with no responsibilities, and very liberating for both me and Maggie Fenton! His devil-may-care attitude means when he sees something he wants, he goes for it. That includes the glamorous lady on the cosmetics counter at Kelsey’s department store. She’s older, and married, but that doesn’t stop him from chasing her. Maggie’s flattered by the attention but even Jonah doesn’t anticipate her passionate response to his advances…

Take one younger man, add some illicit outdoor sex, and Maggie Fenton is inclined to forget she’s the oldest cosmetics girl at Kelsey’s Department Store.

From the outside, it looks as though Maggie Fenton has it all. The glamorous head of the cosmetics department lives a life of luxury, but money definitely hasn’t bought her happiness. In reality, she’s married to a serial cheat who has made her life a misery for over a decade. With her husband chasing younger women, and her teenage co-workers’ catty comments ringing in her ears, Maggie’s resigned herself to being on the scrap heap. Until Jonah Hamilton puts temptation in her way and reminds her she’s still a red-blooded woman.

Commitment is a four letter word as far as Jonah is concerned. He has no intention of settling down when he has the whole world at his feet. The only reason he takes a summer job at Kelsey’s is to fund his travels. Well, that, and the sexy older woman he can’t help flirting with over the makeup counter. Maggie soon becomes a good friend and someone who shows him how good love can be.

The chemistry between them is undeniable but is a fling enough to satisfy their desires, or is it simply the start of something bigger?

Jonah blinked as Maggie disappeared out of the door faster than an alcoholic to a free bar. Her husband had really done a number on her for her to have such low confidence. Her self-esteem was so fragile, one joke had shattered it to smithereens. He couldn’t let her leave like that, thinking such despicable thoughts about herself. And him.

He left the rest of his pint to give chase. He didn’t know why it mattered so much that someone he hardly knew was upset, but he didn’t want to part with her on bad terms.

I’m such a dick.

He dodged through the crowd, cursing himself. Any other sober, conscious of other people’s feelings dumbass would’ve realized she needed that reassurance her husband couldn’t give her. Instead, he’d laughed, convinced that the funny, warm, gorgeous woman with him would realize how daft she was being. Perhaps he’d been too cautious about letting his true thoughts about her be known.

All he’d done was to confirm her suspicions that she was nothing more than a has-been, when, in his experience, she was the most grounded, deeper than a fish pond, natural goddess he’d met in a long time.

He barged the heavy wooden doors open to see the smokers gathered outside in the last of the evening sun. With no sign of Maggie, he knew he’d blown it. Away from the cloud of smoke clogging his lungs, he scanned up and down Great Victoria Street. Among the student crowd, the young professionals and the theater-goers, he spotted her hot-footing it away, dabbing her eyes with a tissue.

He sprinted after her, not really caring who he knocked out of his path, but apologizing anyway. “Excuse me. Sorry. Move!”

Her steps slowed as she approached the traffic lights, giving him time to cover the distance between them. Before she could put her foot out onto the road, he grabbed her elbow and yanked her back.

“What the hell?” She stiffened, probably ready to batter her assailant with the handbag she was gripping like a deadly weapon. Only when she saw his face did she stop resisting.

With grim determination, he pulled her back the way she had come, not saying a word.

“Jonah? What’s going on? I need to go home.” The tone of her voice varied from loud, outright panic to quiet resignation. It only succeeded in driving him on in his quest.

When they reached the pub again, he dodged down the alleyway at the side. They didn’t need an audience. He pushed Maggie up against the wall, careful not to hurt her, but with enough force to stop her running again. He caged her between his body and the brick building. As she worried her bottom lip with her teeth, Jonah leaned down to catch it and draw it back out. She was soft and pliant, and her gentle scent intoxicated him further.

With a point to prove, he kissed her hard, plunging his tongue into her mouth to taste her sweetness and claim it for himself. Ordinarily, such an audacious move might’ve deserved a slap or a knee to the balls. Either would’ve been worth it. Instead, she went limp beneath him, submitting immediately.

He stepped back. “That is how you make me feel. How you should be kissed.”

Christ, the way she had responded to it made it a double sin that someone didn’t do that to her frequently.

Maggie stared back at him, her brow furrowed and her kiss-swollen lips parted and waiting. Beer or no beer, a certain part of his anatomy sat up to say hello.

Both he and Maggie stared silently at one another. Deep down Jonah knew he should be the one to walk away this time. He’d made his point. She was attractive and he fancied her. She could file that away for future reference the next time her husband went MIA. Jonah lingered on her moist lips a while longer.

“Do it again,” he could have sworn she said.

My erotic, Egyptian fantasy, Pyramid of Passion, will also be available for early download at Totally Bound.

Rosie Carter can’t decide—should she act on her feelings for her real-life co-worker or lose herself in the fantasy of her Ancient Egyptian lover?

Rosie Carter’s cleaning job at the museum is far from boring. She starts her night shift by finding the security guard, Nick, screwing a redhead in the office. Running from her attraction to him, she distracts herself with the newly acquired Ancient Egyptian exhibit.

The Gold of Valor catches her eye—a pendant bestowed on the Pharaoh’s soldier, Edifu. Its mystical powers transport her into the bedroom of the man himself, who thinks she’s a gift from the gods and worships her with his mouth, his tongue…

When Rosie wakes up back home she thinks it’s all been an incredibly erotic dream. Until it happens again. She rediscovers the joy of sex and a newfound confidence with her hunky warrior, but she’s caught between her fantasy life and reality. When co-worker Nick starts to show his true feelings toward her, Rosie has to decide what it is she really wants.

ARRA Finalist, New Releases and Aussie Day Celebrations. Busy Busy Busy!

images 7There are so many reasons for me to open the bubbly it’s just ridiculous!

2013 ARRA finalistOn Monday 6th January the finalists for the ARRA Awards were announced. For those who might not have heard of ARRA it’s the Australian Romance Readers Association. I was totally shocked to see my name listed in four finalists categories. Two of my books Emily’s Cowboy and Sarah’s Soldier are in competition for the Best Erotic Romance Book. What an honour and to be honest seeing my name in a list with some of MY favourite authors really is exciting and ridiculous! I’m looking forward to the awards dinner because it really is a fun night.

I attended my first ARRA Awards dinner last year, the event was held during the ARRA Convention in Brisbane. Being in a room full of people who love romance books as much as I do was such a wonderful experience. They ‘got me’ and it was great to just talk books for the night. I had a few ‘fangirl’ moments, that’s for sure. My husband flew in for the dinner, he was on his way to Darwin for work and stopped off in Brisbane for the night. He probably didn’t have as good a time as me, being the only male at a table of eight women may have been a bit daunting. I know he got a little nervous when I told him what some of the women wrote, especially the BDSM authors…but he would probably deny my accusation 😉 The organisers of ARRA are truly amazing, so friendly and helpful. I’m pretty sure that Debbie Phillips never sleeps, her speed in returning emails is legendary. I would like to thank the crew at ARRA for all their hard work. I love reading the book reviews, about the new releases and all the happenings on the ARRA blog and in the newsletter. Thanks also to the wonderful readers that nominated my books, seriously I’m so honoured.

perf5.250x8.000.inddNow if that was not exciting enough I also have two releases to look forward to in the next week. cassieschoice_800

Cassie’s Choice, League of Love book 7 is releasing to the usual outlets on Friday 24th January in eBook format. Cassie has been available from Totally Bound for a few weeks though.

Today I received an email letting me know that the print release of League of Love, Volume 3 (this includes Emily’s Cowboy and Sarah’s Soldier) has been brought forward to THIS Friday. I was expecting this book to release in February so the news really has taken me by surprise and of course I’ve not done anything to promote it. *Sigh* I do want to thank my publisher Totally Bound for all the encouragement, support and love they have shown me. There’s a banner up at the Totally Bound website that brings a huge smile to my face.

Australia Day is coming up so I’ve been involved in a special Australia Day Blog Hop. My day is Friday so come back and visit to enter the Rafflecopter, there are some great books and $100 gift voucher up for grabs. I won’t even hint at what I’m blogging about but I think for those that know me you can probably guess 😉

On Facebook a few Aussie authors have joined together to create a page called Aussie Author Month. You really should check it out, not only for the prizes but the for the crazy posts and nice pictures *wink wink*

Next Wednesday I have another guest author ‘On the Bench’ answering the usual questions and introducing us to a new release.

Well that’s all from me for the moment, I have to finish this blog and post it so I can get ready to  go to the 20/20 Big Bash Cricket tonight. For those that don’t understand what I just said, don’t worry…I’m talking sport again 😉

Jorja Lovett – The Department Store – Four floors of steamy romance

HiRes -JorjaJorja Lovett is a British author with both Irish and Scottish roots which makes for a very dry sense of humour. Writing since she was old enough to wield a pen it wasn’t until she joined her crit group, UCW, that she pursued her passion seriously.

Now, with Joe Manganiello as her permanent muse, if she can leave the pause button on her Magic Mike dvd long enough, she hopes to spend the rest of her days writing steamy romances.

Thanks for having me here today to share my new release. I’ve always found something romantic about those old department stores and I’m having so much fun writing this series. Each book will focus on one floor of Kelsey’s store and the hot encounters between staff and customers. As Toys & Games suggests, book one is the tale of one couple having a little fun outside working hours…

The Department Store – Four floors of steamy romance

Book One – Ground Floor: Toys & Games

groundfloortoysandgames_exlarge (1)

Jen is the new girl in the toy store but it’s not long before the boss’ son Jamie teaches her how to play.

Recently bereaved, Jen White hopes her new job in the toy shop at Kelsey’s Department Store is a fresh start. One ripped pair of stockings later, she catches the eye of the boss’ son, Jamie. She’s not looking to replace her partner but he soon makes her realise she doesn’t want to spend the rest of her life celibate. And die a virgin.

Jamie Kelsey’s a screw up. Well his father still thinks so, even after he’s tried to make amends for losing the family’s fortune. The store’s in trouble but with his father still stuck in the dark ages and refusing his help, he’s worried it’s too late. With a little help from their newest employee, he starts to make his mark on the store. He’s sworn off women to concentrate on his career but when Jen comes to him looking to further her sexual education, it’s an offer he can’t refuse.

“Where are you taking me?” Jen pulled on her coat over her uniform. She wasn’t sure where Jamie usually dined but she was certain she wasn’t dressed for the occasion.

“Okay, I lied. We’re not going out to lunch. I hope you’re not too hungry.” He grabbed her hand and whisked her out onto the streets of the city centre.

Jen’s stomach rumbled in defiance, but in this instance she’d rather sate her curiosity than her appetite. “I can wait, but what’s so important?”

“Something you said got me thinking. There’s only so much I can teach you. Some things, well, you’ll just have to discover for yourself. I’m taking you to Gresham Street.”

“Gresham Street? Where all the sex shops are?” Her voice dropped to an embarrassed whisper as they moved through the throng of shoppers and tourists towards the seedier end of town.

“Yeah. You’re under no obligation to wear a long mac and sunglasses, I just thought you might like to have a look around.”

The closer they got to the gaudy shop windows, the more she felt like a young innocent being led into a den of vice. She was so out of her depth.

The door chimed as they walked in, but the inside of the premises was more inviting than the closed shutters and neon lights outside suggested. She’d expected some dark, dingy backstreet dive crawling with furtive middle aged men. Instead, she found a normal shop whose customers were ordinary young couples and groups of girls having a giggle.

“See? You didn’t set off their newbie alarm after all.” Jamie grinned, and taking her by the hand, led her over to the mannequins modelling their range of sexy lingerie.

“I wouldn’t mind splashing out on some new underwear.” The pretty, flowery sets she wore no longer reflected her mood. She wanted something bold, something daring to show off to her lover.

“I wouldn’t mind splashing out on these.” Jamie held up a pair of crotchless black panties.

“They’re not very practical.” Jen ignored the innuendo to search through the rails of lace and silk.

“Oh, I don’t know. I think I would find them very handy.” He twanged the black string underwear but she didn’t bite.

“What about these? Which one do you prefer?” She picked out a red lace plunge bra and a padded leopard print one, holding each one to her chest in turn.

“I like them both.” Jamie snatched them off her and stuffed them into her basket along with the matching thongs. She was on the right track at least.

They moved on past the rainbow of coloured dildos and strap-ons. One penis at a time was plenty for her. She paused at the bondage and fetish section and cocked her head at some of the oddly shaped black rubber, wondering which orifice they were intended for.

“I think that’s a bit far out for even me.” Jamie zipped the mouth closed on a gimp mask and walked away.

“What about embracing your inner Dom?” Jen flicked the end of a leather flogger at his backside.

“I might be an arsehole but I like my bed partners to know their own mind. Besides, something tells me you wouldn’t make the perfect submissive either.” He grabbed the leather strands and yanked her towards him for a kiss.

“But that means you get to spank me for misbehaving,” she said with a twinkle in her eye.

“Okay, we’ll take it.” He tossed it in the basket. “Along with one of these.” And added a double sided paddle to the purchases.

She bypassed the nipple clamps, quite happy for Jamie to do her tweaking for her, and hovered by the display of tubes and lubes.

“Mint or strawberry?” They both promised extra pleasure.

Jamie arched an eyebrow at her.

“I know, I know. Both. This is adding up to one expensive lunch break, Mr Kelsey.” Fun didn’t come cheap. Well, the experimental kind at least.

“If I can’t spend my cash on sex toys and lube what can I spend it on?”

Cassie’s Choice Now Available for Early Download!

I’ve taken time away from my chair on the beach at Forster, a lovely little town on the north coast of New South Wales, to tell you my good news. images

Ho Ho Ho! Santa bought me another present…

I’m very excited (and slightly nauseous at the same time) to announce that Cassie’s Choice, book 7 in my League of Love series is now available for early download at my publisher Totally Bound. The official release for all other sites is still a month away.

cassieschoice_800 Cassie’s Choice Book seven in the League of Love Series

One night of regret and a simple lack of communication lead to two miserable years apart. What will happen when the two broken-hearted are forced to reunite?

One night has haunted Cassie for over two years. After agreeing to something she didn’t feel sure about, all for the sake of a man—or more correctly, her fear of losing him, she is still consumed with thoughts of her past.

Although a few years younger than her Riley Walters was all man, in and out of the bedroom. So much so that Cassie believed he would tire of her sexual inexperience quickly. For him she was just a bit of fun—he never said anything to her to make her doubt that assumption. The reason she put herself in such an uncomfortable situation in the first place – to keep him happy. Of course it didn’t help. Riley disappeared from her life and never had anything to do with her again. Now he’s back, part of her social circle, leaving Cassie to find a way to deal with the attraction she still feels for him even after two years of trying to convince herself otherwise.

Riley was horrified at how much rage he felt that night. Memories of a trauma from childhood quickly surfaced – He was terrified that he was becoming a monster, just like the man from his memory. Cassandra Davies filled his mind, his every thought, his obsession. Now he’s been offered a position at the Jets Rugby League Club, and an opportunity to work alongside the people he called family, which is something he’d always dreamed of—but how will he survive being around Cassie if he can’t drag her into his arms and back to his bed and never let her leave.

It was now or never. He had to make a choice. This was a chance to make things right with Cassie so that he could face his friends again. But Riley was worried that he would not be strong enough to let her leave. Once she entered his apartment would he have the fortitude to keep his hands from her? Keep from kissing those tempting lips? Running his fingers through her blonde curls or feeling the weight of her breasts in the palms of his hands again?

“No… Don’t go, Cass.” The words came, a plea, as he reached out to stop her. The moment his hand touched her arm, Riley knew he was in trouble. That small connection to her opened up a dam of emotions. The familiar tingle raced up his arm. Just barely a touch and his body was on fire. Needy. Wanting. The power of her over him was indescribable. He wanted to fall to his knees, beg her forgiveness. He would have given anything at that moment for her to touch him. But he could not be weak. He had to pull himself together. If Cassie wanted to talk then talk they would.

“You wanted to talk, let’s talk. Do you want to come in? I can make you a cuppa, I have tea. Actually, I’ve got some of your favourite—it’s still chamomile, right?”

“If you’re sure it’s no trouble, and yes it is.” The smile nearly did him in. When Cassie smiled, her face lit up a room, her eyes sparkled and a dimple appeared in her left cheek. It was adorable and sexy as all get out. He had teased her over it many times but it always turned him inside out. Tonight was no different. God he was in trouble.

Riley stepped back and as Cassie entered past him he caught a whiff of her perfume—no, not perfume, Cassie didn’t wear any, it was all her. Enticing and fresh. Reminding him of what he had lost, what he missed.

“I’ll just pop the kettle on then,” he muttered as he tried to not obsess over the fact that the woman he wanted so badly was now standing in his living room.

“Is this where you grew up? The place you shared with Caitlin?”

Riley stopped in his tracks and watched as Cassie roamed the small space that he called home. She touched the back of his sofa with her hand, and he imagined her stroking his shaft the same way. He refocused and returned to his original plan of making tea as he answered her.

“Only for a few years. We moved in with Brodie after that. It doesn’t look the same as it did back then. This furniture is new and the paintings and photos are courtesy of Caitlin. I didn’t really have much input.” For the life of him Riley didn’t know why he was spilling so much information. There was no reason for Cassie to be interested in who had decorated the place. Riley’s mouth just seemed to take on a life of its own. Pretty much just like the rest of him. His brain was saying slow down, but his mouth and dick had different ideas.

Turning his attention to filling the kettle with water and finding the tea bags, Riley tried to pull himself together.

“I like it, it’s cosy. Caitlin did a good job because the place suits you, Riley.” She spoke from directly behind him. She had entered the tiny space of the kitchen. Riley would only have to turn around and she would be within reach. The temptation of knowing that was torture. Riley, ignoring the belief that a watched pot never boils, stared at the kettle waiting for the steam to rise—tried to ignore the voice that was killing him.

He certainly could not take the chance of looking at her yet. He tried for some small talk, amazed at the length of time it took for the so-called rapid-boil kettle to heat up. “So how have you been?” It was the most ridiculous question he could have ever asked. As soon as the words had left his lips he wanted to haul them back in.

“Now that’s an interesting question… Confused, angry, sad and lonely just about sums it up. What about you, Riley? How have you been?”

On the Bench with Renee Michaels

This week I welcome Total-E-Bound author Renee Michaels to On the BenchRenee is a multi-published author and has written contemporary, paranormal, fantasy, and steampunk. She has a short story in the gold medal Ippy winning anthology Carnal Machines, published by Cleis Press. She is widowed with a grown daughter and son. A voracious reader, Renee admits to being obsessed with books, she is an avid cook and die hard ‘Trekkie‘ much to her children’s embarrassment. Today Renee will be showcasing her latest release Ménage A Must and giving us a little look into her world by answering the usual interview questions. Tell us about your book Renee.

I can’t write in a single genre.  Ideas pop into my head, the characters take root and my stories spring from those ideas.  This novella is my foray into Regency romance, with a sexy twist of course. Ménage A Must is set in an English country estate at the end of the nineteenth century. Molly my main character is an unconventional maid with ambitions to make her fortune. She serves an American heiress, Annabelle, who’s travelled to the Britain to nab a noble man for her social climbing step-mamma.

Now neither girl is what they should be, demure they are not. Annabelle is curious about matters no unmarried girl should, which keeps Molly on tenterhooks. Our Molly is no shrinking violet either, she manages to collect a pair of lusty lovers to keep company with during their visit. But she must be careful, Annabelle’s stepmother’s schemes, may put an end to Molly’s dreams. Annabelle may find herself leg-shackled—don’t you love the verbiage of that era- to a man she couldn’t learn to love.

Now this story does not have a happy ever after at the end. But I’m happy to say it’s the first in the Molly’s Mayhem, series. I thing Molly should have a few adventures before she settles down don’t you think? Here is the first of Molly’s escapades.

Molly O’Dowd is a maid with ambition. She doesn’t intend to spend the rest of her life in service. But she feels bound by loyalty and gratitude to see Annabelle, her young mistress, settled before she leaves to make her fortune.

At the estate of her employer’s potential suitor, she meets Graeme and Logan, a lusty pair of rouges who entice Molly to indulge in a tryst or two or three.

To Molly’s delight and relief her Annabelle takes matters in her own hands and secures a proposal.  Molly is now free to go, but Molly hesitates after all she now has to reasons to linger a while.

Molly didn’t realise that the vehicle had stopped until the door swung open and a soft cough pulled her from her reflections. Her eyes flew open to stare into the leaf-green eyes of the man standing by the carriage.

His expression heated as he fixed his attention on her breasts with a blatant carnality. Molly’s cheeks grew warm. Heavens, she hadn’t blushed since she’d let Billy Doyle have his way with her against Miss Whitney’s kitchen garden wall at sixteen.

She had the inexplicable urge to cross her arms over her chest but she was made of sterner stuff. With a boldness mimicking his, she took her sweet time with her own perusal, and ran her gaze over the lock of ink-black hair curled over his broad forehead, the clean-shaven jaw with the impudent cleft in his chin, the width of his shoulders, his long lean torso. Molly let her attention linger on his groin as he’d done to her bosom.

She quirked her brow, and lifted her gaze to meet his laughing one.

“Touché.” The flash of his lopsided grin was full of unabashed flirtatiousness. “Who might you be, lovey? And will you come out to play?” he asked in a deep baritone. The intimate tone awakened the first tug of arousal between her legs.

Warning bells clamoured in Molly’s head. The sensual curve of his mouth, the unspoken question in his eyes piqued her interest, not to mention the way he waited for her response with an intensity that both flattered and provoked at the same time.

He’d have her drawers down to her ankles before she could say Jack Flash if given the opportunity. Molly bit her lip. One misstep and Mrs Calder would hang her out to dry.

“I’m Miss Calder’s personal maid, and I choose my playmates with care.” Her pert reply earned an appreciative chuckle.

“As you should. Prudence is the byword in our positions, now, isn’t it?”

“Do you make it a habit to proposition every female servant who visits his lordship’s estate?” From Molly’s observations, she surmised he wasn’t a house servant. His darkly tanned skin told her he worked outdoors. Molly could price clothing and leather goods at a glance. His shirt was made from a fine linen, his vest a good tweed, and his boots, though scuffed and smeared with God knew what, were handmade. Though old, they were worth more than what anyone in service earned in a year.

“Ahhh, but you’ve stolen my heart.”

Her mouth dropped open at his audacious statement. Molly fought to suppress the laugh threatening to burst from her.

“And how often does your heart get stolen?”

He flashed her a lopsided grin. “Only on the rare occasion that I encounter a lass with black curls, pansy-blue eyes, and a pink mouth like yours.” He held out a callused hand. “Logan Devlin, at your service. I’m the head groom here.” His beautiful mouth spread in a suggestive smile. “I have a way with the fillies.”

Molly laughed. He was a complete scamp. “I’m sure you do. As to deepening our association, we’ll see…” She let the words hang and Logan’s cocky smirk widened. “I need to get on with my chores.” She took his proffered hand and hopped down when he moved back.

“Logan, where the hell are you?” A man rounded the corner. The irritation on his face eased into a smile. “Is this scoundrel bothering you, miss?” He snatched off his cap to reveal a mop of chestnut curls. He fixed a mock glower on his face and narrowed his hazel eyes into a parody of a threat.

Charmed but not fooled, she lifted her brows to show her misgivings about her would-be rescuer’s intentions. He was bigger than Devlin, barrel-chested, with massive muscles straining the material of his rough trousers tucked into his work-worn boots. His footwear had been made by the same hand as Logan’s if she wasn’t mistaken.

“Forget it, Graeme, I saw her first,” Logan growled darkly. His breath wafted over her ear, and Molly shivered from the unintended caress.

The possessiveness in his voice had Molly trying to tug her hand from his grip. “Saw me first?”

“He is too bold by far, miss, and a fickle sort.” Graeme offered his arm in a gallant gesture, which belied the glint of sexual curiosity in his eyes.

“Yes, he told me.” Molly’s dry rejoinder earned her a solemn nod.

“Well, then, you won’t want to have anything to do with the likes of him. I didn’t catch your name.”

“I never said.” She stepped back from the two men as they shifted to pen her in. Molly pressed her back against the lacquered body of the outmoded carriage. They eyed her like a pair of hawks about to swoop down on their prey. She licked her lips and fidgeted under their intense scrutiny. Yet she didn’t feel threatened by them. They smiled, no, smirked with a seductive expectancy.

What was the first book you had published?

The Sword and the Sorceress. Erotic Fantasy, a little adventure, a dash of magic, and some hot heroes. If I do say so myself.

What was your initial reaction when offered that first contract?

A big OMG, I can’t believe they accepted it! Was the acquiring editor drunk? – I was a stay at home mom, who’s biggest claim to fame were my family dinners.  This was a creative outlet that was all mine, which didn’t involve, kids, hubby, or household chores.

Of the books you have written is there one that holds a special place in your heart and why?

I think Ménage a Must. My heroine is a bold piece as they would say in the era she inhabits. She goes after what she wants. I am a bit shy myself. That’s ironic isn’t’ it, a writer who pens spicy stories who is bashful.

Are you a disciplined writer or do you have to wait for the muse to arrive? Do you have a ritual that gets you in the mood?

I have to discipline myself, I have a set of rules I adhere to. I turn off the T.V., no browsing the net, or Utube.  If I said I was waiting on my ‘muse’, it would be a good procrastination tool, I am working to give up my title as queen of I will get to it later.  I would never get anything done otherwise.

What was the last book you read?

Karen Rose’s, Did You Miss Me. I love her books. My to-be-read pile is embarrassing by the way.  D* –  I know how you feel Renee, there is never enough time…

What are you working on now?

Three things. A shifter story in a quartet of stories, the third of my Molly’s Mayhem series, and the third instalment of my Were Chronicles. I know it sounds crazy, but when I run dry on one story, for some reason I can write another. Kind of like taking a vacation from one world and stepping into another.

What genre would you like to try and write that is different from your own?

Romantic suspense.  A little murder, a sick baddie, good red herrings, I started one, I have the title, the premise, the psychosis of the character who’s actions will set things into motion. But I am suffering from the old,’ is it good enough’ question.

When you receive edits are you Teary and Disillusioned or Feisty and Focussed?

The latter, I hate editing so I mow through. Get it done is my motto.

What is one thing in your books you’d like to try?

Oh, boy, blush. Who will be reading this? Better not say.  D*- Chicken 😉

Now for some hard hitters with an Aussie flavour!

A sport /sportsperson that you watch? (C’mon there must be one) OR An embarrassing sporting memory.

All girl’s school, field hockey, boys visiting from our brother school. Split the seams in bloomers, yes we had to wear them under our cute pleated skirts. Need I say more? Face red from the memory.

Favourite Aussie Author/Actor /Musician?

Hugh Jackman is there any other Aussie actor with his hotness factor? I think not. *D – Many have agreed with you there. Have you seen the new Wolverine movie? Yum!

Your view on Vegemite?

Blah. – D*- Disappointing 😉

Formal dinner party or backyard barbeque?

Backyard Barbecue. I won’t have to all the cooking.

Adventure holiday or relaxing by the pool?

Is there booze at the pool? If yes, the pool.  D* – Of course there is booze!

Favourite Aussie holiday place or one you’ve always wanted to visit?

I want to see the Great Barrier Reef as a snorkeler. It’s wondrous on the television, it has to better in reality.

Thank you Donna for having me. You made this painless and fun. Renee Michaels.
