So you gather a bunch of Aussie authors together and you give them a theme – Food and Hot Sex! The result, an amazing set of stories bundled together over three volumes under the tantalising title of Edible Delights and published by Secret Cravings.
Edible Delights Volume One has just been released. This book does include a little something from moi, Khloe Wren, Tamsin Baker and Jan Graham. This was my first inclusion in an anthology and I had so much fun working with these awesome ladies. As a group we were always there for each other to lend an ear, throw around ideas, help with the dreaded tag lines and synopsis writing or just share a naughty picture or two – for inspiration purposes of course!
So with a rousing shout of Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi, I introduce you to Jan Graham so she can tell us a little more about her story ‘All You Can Eat.’
Jan Graham is On the Bench
Jan Graham describes herself in many ways, she is a full time writer, friend, submissive, orphan, widow, aunt, and sometimes, a wild child. Despite any hiccups the universe may throw at her, she believes in experiencing everything life has to offer and being the best person she can be. Jan recently moved to Newcastle, NSW, Australia, where she spends her time writing erotic romance. Her writing falls under a variety of genres including BDSM, contemporary romance, romantic suspense and paranormal romance. Jan has often been quoted as saying
“I am glad to finally give the characters that swirl around my head on a constant basis, the opportunity to put themselves down on paper and I hope they entertain my readers as much as they amuse me.”
‘All You Can Eat’ Edible Delights Vol 1.
As a Chef, Katrina McGregor knows she can’t please everyone so when a prominent food critic slams her signature dish she’s faced with a choice. Crumble under the weight of one man’s opinion or use it as motivation to change. Katrina’s curiosity peaks when she’s invited to trial her new menu at the critic’s country estate. Why has he taken such an interest in her career and is food the only thing that Conrad Fletcher has on his mind?
Conrad Fletcher refuses to be held responsible for Katrina assuming his elderly father and namesake is the critic who condemned her food. If his plan to seduce the voluptuous little chef who captured his attention weeks earlier succeeds, not only will Katrina have a critically acclaimed menu, she’ll also be in his arms and home forever. The only thing that threatens to prevent him successfully achieving that goal—her reaction to a simple case of mistaken identity.
Lets get to know a bit more about Jan with the usual Author interview questions.
What was the first book you had published?
The first book I had published was Finding Angel. It wasn’t the first one accepted by a publisher but it was the first one to be released.
What was your initial reaction when offered that first contract?
I’m a bit embarrassed to say I cried. I was so shocked that I hadn’t received a rejection I imply burst into tears of relief. I rang my best friend, who immediately thought someone had died or there’d been a disaster of some sort. When I told her I got a publishing deal she said “then why are you crying” my reply was a very intelligent “I don’t know.” I must say all subsequent contracts have resulted in me dancing around the room with joy, which is probably the reaction most people would expect me to have.
Of the books you have written is there one that holds a special place in your heart and why?
I really love all of them but Finding Angel is definitely a bit closer to my heart because it was the first book I completed, the first book to be released etcetera. I guess it was the book I lost my publishing virginity on and we all know the first time is always special. J
Are you a disciplined writer or do you have to wait for the muse to arrive? Do you have a ritual that gets you in the mood?
I’m not really disciplined between books and within the first few chapters of a new book. Once I get into the swing of writing though, then I’ll write virtually non-stop until the book is done. I don’t really have a ritual that gets me in the mood, however, most of my characters seem to have a favourite band or style of music they like to listen to, so I play that music when I write to help me keep in touch with each characters.
What was the last book you read?
The last book I read was Rapture by J.R. Ward. I love the way she writes and I often use her new books as my to-read-treat once I finish writing my current WIP.
What are you working on now?
I’ve just begun writing the third book in my Wylde-Shore Series. It’s called Switching Mercedes and for those who have read the first two books in the series this is Mercedes and Zane’s story. There’s a surprise new character for this book that readers haven’t met before but I’m sure they’ll love him. I’m hoping to have it finished and to the publisher by the end of June.
What genre would you like to try and write that is different from your own?
I’ve always wanted to write paranormal romance. I love the idea of designing a world outside of the human realm. I’m pleased to say that I just had my first paranormal romance accepted for publication and it will come out in October as one of the stories in Edible Delights Anthology Vol 3. I hope it’s as well received by readers as the other genres I write.
When you receive edits are you Teary and Disillusioned or Feisty and Focussed?
Totally focused, I’m not sure about feisty though. For me edits are the final hurdle, it means the book is so close to becoming a reality that I can taste it.
What is one thing in your books you’d like to try?
That’s a dangerous question to ask someone who writes erotic books that include BDSM themes in a lot of the time. So to answer your question all I’m going to say is… I’ve tried everything from my books that I’m interested in trying. Lol J
Now for some hard hitters with an Aussie flavour!
A sport /sportsperson that you watch? (C’mon there must be one) OR An embarrassing sporting memory.
I sometimes watch AFL, although I usually refer to it as soft porn. I love those hard bodies in tight shorts and the players beautifully defined, muscular arms, strong legs and tight butts. Is it hot in here?
Favourite Aussie Author/Actor /Musician?
Aussie Author – at the moment it would be Rowena Cory Daniels, I recently read her Outcast Chronicles trilogy and loved it.
Aussie Actor – Hugh Jackman – need I say more?
Aussie Musician – There are too many to name. Of course Steve, from my book Playing Jax would say AC/DC, so I’ll go with that answer.
Your view on Vegemite?
Yum, I love it.
Formal dinner party or backyard barbeque?
Am I being waited on at the dinner party or preparing it? Oh well it doesn’t matter I’d probably still go the backyard barbeque.
Adventure holiday or relaxing by the pool?
Definitely relaxing by the pool, as long as there are hunky pool guys to bring me drinks and rub lotion onto my skin. J
Favourite Aussie holiday place or one you’ve always wanted to visit?
Melbourne. It has everything I want on a holiday, great shopping, excellent food, theatres, concerts…did I mention shopping? Oh and then there’s the shopping…lol.
